Cam Skattebo Injury Update: Giants Rookie RB Suffers Severe Ankle Injury vs Eagles, Taken to Hospital for Surgery

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a devastating ankle injury during Week 8’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, cutting short what had been a promising game for the young rusher.

How the Injury Happened

The injury occurred midway through the first half when quarterback Jaxson Dart threw a short pass over the middle. As Skattebo reached for the ball, Eagles linebacker Zack Baun tackled him awkwardly, twisting him to the ground.

During the fall, Skattebo’s right leg was trapped underneath him, and his ankle appeared to bend unnaturally — leaving players and fans visibly shaken.

Medical staff immediately rushed to the field. After several minutes of evaluation, Skattebo’s leg was placed in an air cast, and he was carted off toward the locker room. The Giants later confirmed that he was taken to a local Philadelphia hospital for further evaluation.

Official Giants Statement & Medical Update

Shortly after halftime, the Giants announced that Cam Skattebo had been ruled out for the rest of the game with a dislocated ankle.

Later, team officials confirmed that Skattebo would undergo surgery to repair the injury at a nearby hospital in Philadelphia.

Head coach Brian Daboll expressed sympathy for the rookie, saying:

“I feel absolutely terrible for the young man. He’s worked hard and made a real impact for us this season.”

Before exiting the game, Skattebo recorded three carries for 12 yards and a touchdown reception for 18 yards, showcasing the playmaking ability that has quickly made him a fan favorite in New York.

Who Replaces Cam Skattebo?

With Skattebo sidelined, the Giants will turn to Tyrone Tracy Jr., who began the season as the team’s starting running back before dealing with a shoulder injury. Tracy entered Week 8 with 120 rushing yards and one touchdown on 35 carries, plus eight receptions for 54 yards.

Behind him, Devin Singletary remains part of the running back rotation, while Dante Miller, currently on the practice squad, could be elevated to the active roster if Skattebo’s recovery takes several weeks or more.

Outlook for Skattebo and the Giants

Skattebo’s injury is a major blow for a Giants offense that had finally started to find rhythm. The rookie had been emerging as a reliable dual-threat option, showing power as a rusher and solid hands out of the backfield.

While there’s no official timeline for his return yet, ankle dislocations typically require surgery and an extended rehab period, meaning Skattebo could miss the remainder of the 2025 season.

Giants fans  and teammates will be hoping for a full recovery as the team prepares to lean on Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary moving forward.
