George Springer’s Game 7 Heroics Propel Blue Jays to First World Series Since 1993
George Springer crushed a dramatic three-run homer in the seventh inning, lifting the Toronto Blue Jays to a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night and securing their first trip to the MLB World Series in more than three decades.
The veteran outfielder’s 23rd career postseason home run — his fourth this October — sealed Game 7 of the American League Championship Series. With the victory, Toronto will now face Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, beginning Friday at Rogers Centre.
Toronto, which won championships in both of its previous World Series appearances in 1992 and 1993, remains unbeaten in the Fall Classic. The Blue Jays and the Miami Marlins are still the only MLB teams with multiple appearances and no losses in the event.

Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh each launched solo home runs, but the Mariners fell just one game short of reaching the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
The Blue Jays utilized six pitchers to hold off Seattle’s offense. Reliever Seranthony Domínguez worked a flawless sixth before starter-turned-reliever Kevin Gausman (2-1) took over in the seventh. Despite issuing two walks, Gausman managed to escape without damage.
In the bottom half, Bryan Woo walked Addison Barger to start the inning, followed by a single from Isiah Kiner-Falefa. After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Eduard Bazardo entered to face Springer, who hammered a 1-0 sinker deep into left-center to give Toronto a 4-3 lead. The blast tied Springer with Kyle Schwarber for third-most postseason homers in MLB history, trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and José Altuve (27).
Chris Bassitt handled a clean eighth, and Jeff Hoffman struck out the side in the ninth to secure the save and send Toronto into celebration mode.
Earlier in the game, Rodríguez doubled and scored on Josh Naylor’s RBI single in the first inning. Toronto responded when Springer walked and scored on Daulton Varsho’s RBI single to center in the bottom half. Rodríguez and Raleigh later added solo shots to give Seattle a 3-1 advantage before Springer’s late-game fireworks turned the tide.
Shane Bieber allowed two runs across 3⅔ innings for Toronto, while Kirby worked four innings for Seattle, giving up one run on four hits.
Toronto now heads into the World Series with momentum, chasing its first championship in over 30 years — and with Springer once again proving to be October’s most clutch performer.
